AutoReject World Series |
MarchSixteen Racing is an Austrian racing team. They are active in the AutoReject World Series, Super Formula and many junior series.
Created by Austrian businessman and former racing driver Toto Wolff as the racing arm of his MarchSixteen investment group that he had founded in 2004, the team initially began as an outfit in national series and in European lower formulae. After extending his portfolio further, Wolff's MarchSixteen Racing then started branching out all over the globe in 2020.
In chronological order, the team began racing in Africa Racing League in conjunction with Automovel Monastir, Formula 5000 (both 2020-21), bought out Drago Corse's entry in Super Formula and joined ThreeBond in running the team, following which ThreeBond also teamed up with MarchSixteen to form an Asian Formula 3 entry as MarchSixteen Racing Japan (both 2021), European Formula 3 (also in 2021), Auto2 (also in 2021 but cancelled), Formula 2 (2022) and the AutoReject World Series (2023).
AutoReject World Series (2023-present)
The reestablishment of the ARWS in 2023 created openings for new teams. Coming in with several seasons in feeder series, MarchSixteen Racing was one of the many teams completely new to the ARWS joining for the first time.
2023
MarchSixteen used Ford engines in their rookie ARWS season, with Gary Pacer and Jesus Castell at the wheel. They opened the season with 3 successive double-retirements, before Pacer broke through and scored his and the teams first podium at the Czech Grand Prix. He then followed this up by qualifying on pole for the British GP, only to spin twice in the race and finish 7th. Fortunately, Castell was able to salvage a result for the team by finishing 2nd, before Pacer matched that mark the next race at the Scandinavian GP. Pacer then broke through by winning the team's first race in Japan, and looked to add a 2nd win after starting on pole in Macau and dominating the race. However, he crashed out in heavy rain attempting to pass Edvard Holm, who was on a different pit strategy, leaving MarchSixteen's debut season to end on something of a sour note, as Pacer's win was their only finish across the final 5 races.
2024
For the 2024 season, MarchSixteen opted for a full change on the driving front, after being disappointed with Pacer's mistakes and Castell's lack of results. As a result, they would hire Fajny Watson, who incredibly, took pole on his one-off debut in Australia the previous season, and Hungarian rookie Magda Szervánszky. MarchSixteen continued with Ford power for their second season, hoping that the EcoBoost I3 turbo would display increased reliability after a year of feedback.
